CNS Washington Update: July 2026

The House passed a defense authorization bill, a reconciliation framework, and a congressional stock-trading ban, then left for a five-week recess. The Senate stayed behind with government funding as its central task and a fiscal year that ends September 30. Vaccine policy and scientific independence dominated the HELP Committee’s questions for the CDC and HHS preparedness nominees. 

CNS took your priorities to two congressional offices in July, meeting with the offices of Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) and Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D. (D-WA-08). Both conversations covered permanent telehealth flexibilities, the child neurology training pipeline, prior authorization and insurance denials, NIH and NSF research funding, and vaccine confidence for medically vulnerable children. CMS also released the CY 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule, with comments due September 14.
