CNS Washington Update: August 2026 

The Senate approved a continuing resolution extending federal funding through December 11, while FY 2027 appropriations and other legislative priorities remain ahead for the fall. The compressed legislative calendar makes federal funding and other outstanding priorities important areas to watch.

Vaccine policy remained a significant focus in August. President Trump issued an executive order establishing revised “Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations,” while HHS issued a Request for Information on federal vaccine recommendation categories and shared clinical decision-making. The developments could have implications for child neurologists and children whose vaccination decisions require individualized clinical assessment. CNS is also monitoring CDC leadership, immunization recommendations, ACIP, and the ongoing measles outbreak.
