CNS Endorses Program Directors’ Recommendations for Child Neurology Residency Training

On September 30, 2026, the Child Neurology Society (CNS) endorsed A Statement from Child Neurology Residency Program Directors: Recommendations for Changes in Child Neurology Residency Training.

The statement recommends a four-year categorical child neurology residency with more curricular flexibility and a renewed emphasis on child neurology. Ninety percent of responding program directors approved its curriculum.

The Board found the statement consistent with the findings of the CNS Training the Future Child Neurologist Task Force and joins program directors in asking the ACGME to consider these recommendations in Shaping GME, its national initiative to modernize residency training.
