About the Speakers

Richard Finkel, MD

Richard Finkel, MD is. the Chief of Neurology at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, FL. Dr. Finkel was honored by the American Academy of Neurology in April 2018 with the presentation of the Sidney Carter Award in Children in recognition of his breakthrough achievements in treating children with muscular dystrophy (MD) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

Dr. Finkel earned his medical degree at Washington University in St. Louis, then completed training in pediatrics and child neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Before coming to Nemours in 2012, Dr. Finkel served with distinction for many years at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Denver Children’s Hospital.

One of the highlights of the upcoming 2018 CNS Annual Meeting Scientific Program is the Tuesday afternoon symposium Dr. Finkel organized, “Contemporary Management of Spinal Muscular Atrophy: Transitioning from reactive care to proactive care in the molecular era.”
