The Child Neurology Society is deeply concerned by reports that Dr. Walter J Koroshetz, Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will not be offered a contract renewal for 2026.
Dr. Koroshetz has provided steady and visionary leadership at the NINDS for nearly two decades, advancing neurological research and fostering collaboration that has benefited patients, families, and the pediatric neurology community. At a time of uncertainty across the biomedical research landscape, abrupt leadership changes raise concerns about continuity, stability, and long-term research priorities, particularly for childhood-onset and rare neurological disorders.
The Child Neurology Society remains committed to working with the NIH to ensure sustained, transparent leadership and a strong future for neurological research in the service of children and their families.
