Children are our future. As we mark the one-year anniversary of the CNS Vaccine Action Taskforce (VAX-Task), the Child Neurology Society once again urges the federal government to maintain funding and access to the American Academy of Pediatrics childhood vaccine schedule without restriction. We also call upon child neurologists to continue to advocate for their patients by helping parents, caregivers, and health care professionals keep children up to date on their immunizations. As Child Neurologists, we:
- Care for children with neurologic conditions who require protection from vaccine-preventable infections, which may lead to further neurologic compromise
- Care for neurotypical children who develop vaccine-preventable illnesses with neurologic comorbidities
- Encounter vaccine hesitancy from families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals due to false claims that link vaccines and autism and damage the confidence of the public in the safety of vaccines. Review our statement here: CNS Statement on Autism
The Child Neurology Society calls upon our nation’s leaders to protect children by ensuring broad access to essential vaccines and curbing propagation of unproven information about vaccination safety.
