Maureen Sheehan, President ACNN

We are getting ready for Vancouver! Time to think about nominating ACNN members for the Claire Chee Nursing Excellence Award, Excellence in Child Neurology Nurse Practitioner Award, and the Innovative Clinical Practice in Child Neurology Nursing Award. These awards will be presented in Vancouver. Nomination forms will be available online in February.

Claire Chee Nursing Excellence Award recognizes and honors the registered nurse who, as a member of the ACNN, has rendered distinguished service within the profession of child neurology nursing. The recipient is one who demonstrates, through strength of character and competence, a commitment to the care of children with neurological disorders and their families. She/he is acknowledged by her/his peers as one who exhibits qualities of compassion, resourcefulness, leader-ship, knowledge, communication, and inspiration.

Excellence in Child Neurology Nurse Practitioner Award recognizes a nurse practitioner who meets the same criteria as the Clair Chee Award.

Innovative Clinical Practice in Child Neurology Nursing Award to a nurse/nurse practitioner/physician’s assistant who has developed and implemented an innovation in Child Neurology clinical practice. The recipient will receive a monetary award equal to the registration fee for the annual CNS/ACNN conference and be invited to give a presentation about their innovation during the annual ACNN Meeting.

Thanks to donations from members of the CNS and ACNN, the ACNN was able to award an Elizabeth Hobdell Nursing Research Grant to Debbie Terry, nurse practitioner at Nationwide Children’s Hospital for her study “A Qualitative Analysis of School Nurses’ Experience Caring for Students with Psychogenic Non Epileptic Events”. The goal of this study is to identify how school nurses perceive the experience of caring for a child with PNEE and identify factors that are supportive and those that are barriers to the optimal management of PNEE in schools. Applications for a Hobdell research grant are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Forms are available on the ACNN website.

Looking forward to seeing you in Vancouver. Don’t forget your passport!
