Dear CNS colleagues:

The Child Neurology Society Board recently approved honoring the memory of Roger Brumback for his lifetime of service to the profession by renaming our two Lifetime Achievement Awards for Dr. Brumback and creating a fund to support these awards. Today I ask each of you to contribute generously to the Roger Brumback Lifetime Achievement Award Memorial Fund.

Whom we choose to honor often defines our own values and priorities, and in naming these awards for Roger Brumback, the Child Neurology Society has done something noble and virtuous. Everyone no doubt remembers the tragic deaths of Roger and Mary Brumback in 2013, but tragedy alone does not always justify the naming of awards. Roger Brumback made major contributions to our Society and to our profession. We all benefitted, individually or collectively, from Roger’s collegiality, his sage advice, and his keen editorial eye. Roger and Mary were both highly accomplished, successful people, but they were also two of the most intelligent, generous and gracious people we have ever known.

The Society already has a few thousand dollars that were contributed as memorials two years ago. In order to support an enduring award, we need additional contributions. So please join me in contributing. Please consider adding a contribution to the Brumback fund as you pay your dues or make a donation via the CNS website (click the “Support CNS” tab).

Sincerely,

E. Steve Roach, MD
