ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP

Applicants for active membership in the Child Neurology Society must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology, or may seek active membership on the basis of Meritorious Contributions.

Check list for applicants seeking regular ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP

BOARD CERTIFIED

  • Application form
  • Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology OR Canadian Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Neurology plus 1 or 2 years of pediatric training (send copy of certificate)

BOARD ELIGIBLE (but not yet certified):

  • Application form
  • PL1 and PL2 years/or equivalent as defined by the American Board of Pediatrics or PL1 pediatrics plus PGY1 Internal Medicine or 1 year of Neuroscience training as approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • 1 year of Adult Clinical Neurology Residency.
  • 1 year of Clinical Child Neurology.
  • 1 year of basic neurological sciences and clinical and/or laboratory disciplines.)
  • Candidates applying for active membership must request letters from their training directors in pediatrics, internal medicine, neuroscience, neurology, and child neurology supporting their application and documenting the type and duration of training

ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP ON BASIS OF CONTRIBUTIONS

Applicants applying for active membership who are not certified or eligible for ABPN certification, but who have made contributions in investigation, education or health care in the field of Child Neurology, must provide the following support documentation:

  • Application form
  • Letters of recommendations submitted by three Active members of the Child Neurology Society
  • Curriculum vitae and bibliography.

Check list for JUNIOR MEMBERS ADVANCING TO ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP

Junior members may change their membership status from Junior to Active membership 1) upon submission of evidence of completion of training sufficient to be eligible for examination for certification in Neurology with Special Competence in Child Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; 2) the equivalent Canadian Board; or, 3) completion of one or two) years training in pediatrics and certification in neurology by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. This evidence must by means of:

  • Evidence of certification by the appropriate Board.

OR

  • A letter from the Director of the applicant's training program stating that all training requirements have been met (including requisite pediatric training)

  • CHECK LIST FOR MEDICAL STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

    A Medical Student Member is a person enrolled in an Association of American Medical College, The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, or College of Family Physicians of Canada accredited training in Canada.

    Note: Medical Student Membership terminates upon graduation from medical school.

    Medical School Members accepted in a post-graduate training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Royal College of Physicians of Canada may be upgraded to Junior Membership in the Society in accordance with Article 1, Section 2.2 by submitting a written request along with a letter of support from an Active Member of the Child Neurology Society.
