Description
Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics, a 317-bed free standing children’s hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, is recruiting a Chief of Child Neurology at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. We are searching for those that desire to advance the field of neurology through research and collaboration, those who possess strong clinical and interpersonal skills, and who are attracted to a highly desirable community.
Candidates must be BC in Child Neurology and have strong clinical, teaching and leadership skills. Expertise in epilepsy and neurophysiology, neurogenetics, neurodevelopmental disorders and/or neuro-oncology is preferred with a desire to contribute to developing centers of excellence in these areas. Participation in both clinical and basic science research programs is encouraged.

The Section of Neurology currently consists of 10 child neurologists (8.5 FTEs), 12 skilled pediatric clinical nurses, 4 child neurology fellows, and an active neurophysiology laboratory including one board certified and one board eligible neurophysiologist. Three neuroradiologists are active in the clinical and educational programs within the section. Our staff rotate between busy outpatient and inpatient services that include regular teaching responsibilities for the pediatric residency and child neurology fellowship training programs.

Active collaborations are ongoing with subspecialty section members in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (Neurodevelopmental and Pediatric Movement Disorders), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Neuromuscular Diseases and Brachial Plexus Injuries), Genetics (Neurogenetic Disorders), and Hematology/Oncology (Pediatric Stroke). We are the regional referral center for patients to the Neonatal and Pediatric ICU’s. The Epilepsy Surgery Initiative, a comprehensive epilepsy program, contains a two-fold focus: the diagnoses and treatment of different types of epilepsy and the non-pharmacological workup for intractable epilepsy patients. Additional programs of interest include an active Clinical Pharmacology Program and potential collaborations with active research in the sections of Pediatric Pulmonology (Sleep Disorders) and Critical Care (Traumatic Brain Injury).

Children’s Mercy Hospital has 25 subspecialty training programs and a residency program in Pediatrics. We house an established child neurology fellowship program in partnership with the adult neurology residency program at the University of Kansas Medical Center and provide the core pediatrics rotations for both the University of Missouri-School of Medicine and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Academic appointments are through the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.
