Description
The Phoenix Children's Hospital Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Program at has a position available beginning July 1, 2008. The 1 year fellowship will include extensive exposure to outpatient and inpatient EEG. Highlights of the fellowship include participation in the new, 5 bed, state-of-the-art video-EEG pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit (PEMU). The PEMU is staffed by a specialty trained, dedicated nursing cohort with on unit pediatric psychiatry, psychology, social work and child life participation. Additional inpatient experience will be obtained via interpretation of recordings from large pediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care units. Current services include ketogenic diet, vagus nerve stimulator, epilepsy surgery and experimental antiepileptic drug trials. The fellow will be expected to participate in ongoing research efforts. A rotation in the Mayo Clinic Arizona Epilepsy Monitoring Unit will be included in the fellowship.

The Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Program is staffed by 3 fellowship trained pediatric epileptologists.

Phoenix Children's Hospital, the largest freestanding Children's Hospital in Arizona, opened its new 317 bed facility in May of 2002. PCH is in a growth phase with regard to staff, programs and facilities. An additional 100 bed expansion is planned in the next 3 years. It is a comprehensive tertiary care center with 3 sub-specialty satellite centers in the Valley. The hospital serves as a teaching facility for residency programs in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine Pediatrics, with 21 pediatric residents per year. In addition, Phoenix Children's Hospital is a major teaching hospital for University of Arizona medical students. Pediatric residents and medial students take electives in Pediatric Neurology on a regular basis.

Salary: commensurate with training level.

Requirements: completion of a pediatric neurology residency.
