Barry Kosofsky, MD

Dr. Barry Kosofsky is the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation Professor of Pediatrics and Chief, Division of Pediatric Neurology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and the Director of the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation Laboratory of Molecular and Developmental Neuroscience. He is also a Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medical College as well as an Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is Board Certified in Neurology with Special Competence in Child Neurology.

After receiving a B.A., M.A. in Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Kosofsky entered Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he was awarded his medical degree (M.D.) and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. He completed his pediatric residency training at Children's Hospital in Boston. Following residency, Dr. Kosofsky served as Assistant Resident/Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he also completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the MGH-East Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory. In 1992, he was appointed Instructor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and joined the staff of Massachusetts General Hospital.

He joined Weill Cornell following 19 years at Harvard Medical School, where he was an Associate Professor of Neurology, and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was an Associate Neurologist and Director of the Child Neurology Residency Training Program. Dr. Kosofsky is a past Scientific Program Planning Chair and served on the Board of Directors of the Child Neurology Society as Councillor for the Northeast (2011-13) and the longtime lead "anchorman" of the CNS Annual Meeting Child Neuro News Wrap.

Gail Solomon, MD

After graduation from Smith College in 1958, I enrolled in Albert Einstein College of Medicine as a member of the fourth class. There were inspiring professors including Dr. Saul Korey in Neurology. On my clinical rotation in Pediatrics, my first patient was a 13 year old boy with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Dr. Isabelle Rapin was my attending who inspired me to pursue a career in Pediatric Neurology. My senior elective was at Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where I was taught by Dr. Sidney Carter, Dr. Arnold Gold, Dr. Abe Chutorian and Dr. Neils Lowe.The pediatric resident was Dr. Richard Koenigsberger. After pediatric internship and first year residency at Bronx Municipal Hospital and senior residency at The. New York Hospital- Cornell Medical School, I began my NIH Fellowship at NINY-Columbia P&S with 1 year of adult Neurology under Dr. Houston Merritt and 2 years of Pediatric Neurology on Dr. Carter's service. I published a paper on Childhood Stroke in Brain with Dr. Carter, Dr. Gold and Dr. Sadek Hilal (neuroradiologist). During the Fellowship,Dr. Chutorian and I reported our clinical experience with Opsoclonus and Neuroblastoma in NEJM.
My interest in Epilepsy led to extending myNIH Fellowship at NINY to study EEG and Clinical Neurophysiology with Dr. Eli Goldensohn.

In 1969 I was recruited by Dr. Fred Plum and Dr. Hart Peterson to be Director of the EEG Laboratory and Instructor in Pediatric Neurology at The New York Hospital - Cornell Medical School. I continued as Director of EEG lab , providing Pediatric Neurology and Epilepsy patient care, teaching and mentoring two generations of pediatric neurology and epilepsy Fellows and residents, and doing clinical research.I was promoted to Assistant Professor, Associate Clinical Professor and in 2004 achieved rank of Professor of Clinical Neurology, Professor of Clinical Neurology in Pediatrics, Professor of Clinical Neurology in Psychiatry and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in Neurology.

With Dr. Fred Plum and Dr. Henn Kutt, I published a book, Clinical Management of Seizures. I taught Psychiatry residents and Fellows and consulted in our Psychiatric Hospital at Westchester Division of NYPH-Cornell for many years. This led to the writing of a book collaborating with Dr. Cynthia Pfeffer, Dr. Audrey Walker and Dr. David M. Kaufman, titled Child and Adolescent Neurology for Psychiatrists. During my more than 46 years at Weill Cornell Medical College-NYPH, I have worked with many wonderful Pediatric. Neurologists and Epileptologists during their training and as peers including Dr. Murray Engel and our current excellent Chief of Pediatric Neurology, Dr. Barry Kosofsky, who is leading us in this exciting 21 st century training young physicians in patient care and research.

Murray Engel, MD is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Clinical Neurology and Director of the Clinical Service at Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Engel earned his MD at the University of Chicago, then trained in Pediatrics and Adult Neurology at Yale New Haven Medical Center. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Adult Neurology at Yale New Haven Medical Center and a second fellowship in Child Neurology at the Neurologic Institute at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Engel has previously been on faculty at Columbia and Yale, and was Director of Neurology at Blythedale Children's Hospital. He is Board Certified in Neurology (with special competence in Child Neurology), Pediatrics, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities.
