Welcome to the Child Neurology Web Site. The Child Neurology Society is the preeminent non-profit professional association of pediatric neurologists in the United States, Canada, and worldwide devoted to fostering the discipline of child neurology and promoting the optimal care and welfare of children with neurological and neuro developmental disorders. These disorders include epilepsy, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, learning disabilities, complex metabolic diseases, nerve and muscle diseases and a host of other highly challenging conditions.

Child neurologists are specially trained physicians who have followed up their four-year medical school education with a five-year post-graduate training regimen consisting of two years training in pediatrics, one year in general neurology, and two years in pediatric neurology. In 1969, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology awarded the first board certificate in Neurology “with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology.” Three years later, in 1972, the Child Neurology Society was founded with an initial enrollment of 223 members. There are, at present, over 80 university-based training programs in child neurology in the United States and Canada, and over 1300 child neurologists in the CNS.

The CNS Web Site is primarily designed to serve the ongoing academic, research, and practice based needs of its members. It will also serve as an invaluable informational resource and portal to other websites for professionals working in related fields, medical students interested in exploring careers in child neurology, and parents of children searching for a neurologist, support group, or other websites which may prove useful in helping them to understand and address the challenges confronting their family.
